Our Pre-School

Doddiscombsleigh Pre-School is a community-run, not-for-profit pre-school with charitable status. We are a member of the Early Years Alliance, registered with the Charity Commission and are regulated by Ofsted. Founded in 1992 by local parents and the school, the management of the pre-school is now the responsibility of an elected committee comprising of parents, carers, community members and school staff who volunteer their time, experience and resources.

Our small pre-school size has an excellent staff to child ratio, each of our staff has time to nurture each child and their family as individuals. We have strong links with Doddiscombsleigh Primary School, aiding a smooth transition into Reception Class; although we welcome applications from all children from the community regardless of future school plans.

We are a small rural pre-school designed to promote curiosity, confidence and joyful learning.  Our ethos is:

• To offer a warm, inclusive, child centred environment where children are safe and secure.
• Enriching children’s learning through imaginative and creative play-based opportunities.
• To nurture each child as an individual. Our small class size and excellent staff to child ratio enables us to get to know each child and instil confidence, a love of learning, exploring and discovering.
• We pride ourselves on developing close and cooperative relationships with children and their families. We value each individual as part of our ‘pre-school family’. We look for ways to positively connect with the wider community so that the children and their families experience a sense of belonging and connection to their local area.
• Nestled in the heart of the Teign Valley we are deeply rooted in our local community and to the land around us. We have a passion for nature, outdoor play and learning as part of our daily provision. Our ‘Forest School’ is an exciting weekly feature. Access to stimulating natural spaces inspire exploration, curiosity and delight and allow children of all ages to learn through experience in relationship with us and nature.
• Children learn to care for and respect themselves and others, to be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others and to recognise that we all have unique gifts and abilities to offer.
